Beautiful women often have sad lives or "thin fates"?

There's an ancient Chinese proverb about it, 紅顏薄命, prounounced as "Hong yen pao ming" in Mandarin, also "Hong gan po mya" in the Hokkien or south Fujian dialect, it is better translated in Tagalog as "Ang magaganda ay maninipis na palad" or "The beautiful often have thin fates or fortunes".

Is this true? I heard this Chinese proverb from a friend of our late mother---who was noted for her beauty---during her funeral wake.

Half-Spanish, half-Tagalog actress Marian Rivera of Cavite province, the Philippines is surely one of the most beautiful women in the world. Agree?

I had the privilege to have interviewed Marian Rivera in the past for a magazine cover story in March 2011 and found that Marian is disarmingly witty, humorous, candid and pragmatic in her personality---so she is beautiful not only physically. When GMA 7 interviewed me then, I said she's the most beautiful showbiz star of the Philippines.

Congratulations to this strong-willed and good-humored actress for gracing the covers of three popular Philippine magazines this January 2013---FHM, Women's Health and Star Studio. She is the hottest female star of GMA 7 television network and of Regal Films, both of the Philippines.

Her boyfriend is the award-winning and smart actor Dingdong Dantes, also of GMA 7.

Best wishes to Marian Rivera for her continued great success in 2013!
